G1 placings to Impending and It’s Somewhat at Flemington

Godolphin’s G1 winners Impending and It’s Somewhat added placings at the top level to the their records at Flemington on Saturday.

Impending finished third in the G1 Darley Stakes at Flemington, adding to a record that grows more impressive with every start while It’s Somewhat filled the same placing behind Tosen Stardom in the G1 Emirates Stakes.

In a race that ranked as the highest quality Australian sprint this year, Impending ran a typically game race behind Redzel and Terravista, an effort that suggested he was in the same form that won him the G1 Stradbroke Handicap in June.

“You have to be proud of the way he ran, the two that beat him home are very good sprinters and there were a lot of good ones behind him,” said trainer James Cummings.

“They went only an even speed for the first part of the race which made it hard for anything to make ground. Redzel is a very good horse, he’s proved it.”

Impending broke smartly and jockey Corey Brown positioned him perfectly, a length off Redzel on the grandstand rail.

The Godolphin colt threw down a challenge with 250m to run, but Redzel showed the benefit of an easy run in front and found an extra turn of foot that assured him of victory.

Impending’s placing was followed by It’s Somewhat’s strong effort to finish third to Tosen Stardom and Happy Landing in the Emirates.

The winner last autumn of the G1 Doncaster Mile at Randwick, It’s Somewhat (Craig Williams) ran an honest race, his placing taking his earnings to more than A$3.3 million.

Earlier on the Flemington card, the Godolphin silks were carried to victory by Moher in the ungraded Sensis Digital Trophy while previously unraced two-year-old Dynamited did the same at Rosehill in Sydney.

Back at Flemington, another Godolphin juvenile, Encryption, showed he was a colt with a future when second in the G3 Maribyrnong Plate at Flemington.
