Final Song holds on in G3 Nad Al Sheba Turf Sprint

Racenews

Final Song set up a potential tilt at the G1 Al Quoz Sprint with an exhilarating display in the six-furlong G3 Nad Al Sheba Turf Sprint Sponsored By Emirates.com at Meydan, UAE, on Super Saturday, 6 March.

The Saeed bin Suroor-trained filly, runner-up to Man Of Promise over the same course and distance in the Listed Dubai Sprint on her previous outing, was held up towards the rear of the 14 runners by Frankie Dettori.

Final Song ran on strongly to take up the running a furlong and a half from home and opened up a four-length advantage over the field approaching the final half-furlong. Motafaawit laid down a strong challenge to Final Song in the closing stages but the daughter of Dark Angel prevailed by a head, with the front two pulling two and a half lengths clear of Acklam Express in third.

Saeed bin Suroor said: “Final Song has shown plenty of speed over five and six furlongs, but she also ran well over a mile in the 1,000 Guineas last year. She always tries hard, whatever the distance, and I think six furlongs is the best trip for her.

“Frankie rode her with confidence and I thought she was going to win well in the last two furlongs. She is a tough filly, who always shows plenty of speed, and the G1 Al Quoz Sprint could be her next target.”
