Dutch Connection seeking another Supreme success at his favourite course

Racenews

Dutch Connection is seeking to record a repeat victory in the G3 Supreme Stakes over seven furlongs at Goodwood, UK on Sunday, 26 August.

The Charlie Hills-trained six-year-old won the 2017 Supreme Stakes by a comfortable two lengths from Salateen.

He has won three times over the course and distance in total, having also taken the G2 Lennox Stakes in 2016 and a maiden as a two-year-old in 2014. He has made four appearances so far this season, most recently coming home seventh in the G2 Lennox Stakes on 31 July.

He was also fourth to D’bai in the G3 John Of Gaunt Stakes over seven furlongs at Haydock Park on 9 June and began 2018 by taking fourth in the mile G1 Lockinge Stakes at Newbury on 19 May.

Charlie Hills said: “Dutch Connection won this race last year, which means three of his five wins have come at Goodwood while he was also second in the 2015 Lennox Stakes.

“He seems really well – nice and fresh – and has come out of this year’s Lennox in great nick. I was really happy with him that day when he was only beaten a couple of lengths.

“He used to love quick ground, but he is a bit older and maybe his wheels are not as strong as they used to be so we will be careful with rock-hard ground now. The way the weather has been and the moisture that is around, it should be kinder at Goodwood on Sunday and on his best course form hopefully he will be in the mix.”

A field of 10 is set to go to post in the Supreme Stakes, with the opposition including recent G2 Hungerford Stakes runner-up Dream Of Dreams, 2017 G2 Lennox Stakes winner Breton Rock and Salateen.
