Lightly raced four-year-old Diamond Rain returns to Group level for the G3 Hoppings Stakes at Newcastle, UK, on Friday, 27 June.

The daughter of Shamardal enjoyed a bright start to her career last May, following up a winning introduction at Ascot with a decisive Listed win at Newbury.

Pitched into G2 company for the Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot, Diamond Rain failed to act on good to firm ground as she trailed home last. She made one more appearance as a three-year-old, finishing fourth in a Doncaster Listed race.

Diamond Rain made an impressive return to action at Haydock Park in May, when she rallied to beat G2 winner Running Lion by nearly two lengths in the Listed Hedge Of Oak Stakes.

Her trainer Charlie Appleby said: “Diamond Rain comes into this on the back of a nice win at Haydock. She has definitely come on for her first run of the season and conditions at Newcastle should suit. She looks the one to beat.”
