Closing third for Javanica in G3 Autumn Miss Stakes

Racenews

Consistent filly Javanica gained some more G3 Black Type on turf when galloping out strongly to finish third in the Autumn Miss Stakes over a mile at Santa Anita, USA, on Saturday, 30 October.

Last season’s G3 Jimmy Durante Stakes runner-up broke smartly and made the early running before settling in third behind Zero Tolerance and Spanish Loveaffair.

Ego Trip moved up to dispute third with Javanica as the field bunched down the back and the Godolphin filly had to wait to deliver her challenge after being caught on the inner rail entering the straight.

Javanica hit the line powerfully after being switched out by Drayden Van Dyke entering the final half-furlong, getting the better of Zero Tolerance for third in the final strides.

Her trainer Eoin Harty said: “You always want to save ground but the turns are so tight that, if you race up the inside, you need to get lucky. We saved the ground with Javanica but didn’t get lucky. She was bottled up and didn’t get out until after the sixteenth-pole, by which point the race was won or lost.

“She still ran another very good race and has been a very hard-luck filly throughout her career. She has run against some top class performers and was only beaten a neck by Rombauer earlier this season. She’s only three and there should be a very good race in her somewhere.”
