Closing second for Javanica in G3 Jimmy Durante Stakes

Racenews

Javanica produced a late flourish to finish second on her Graded-race debut in the G3 Jimmy Durante Stakes at Del Mar, USA, on Saturday, 28 November.

The Eoin Harty-trained juvenile, who filled the same spot on her previous start in the Glorious Song Stakes at Woodbine, Canada, in mid-October, raced in sixth on the inside rail for the majority of the turf mile contest.

Javanica was shuffled back a couple of places at the top of the straight and had to wait to deliver her challenge under Flavien Prat. After finding space entering the final furlong, the Medaglia d’Oro homebred flew home, getting up for second near the line to go down by half a length to Fluffy Socks.

Eoin Harty said: “Javanica ran a huge race. With a different set of circumstances and a clearer trip, I think she probably would have been good enough to win. We might have a look at the Blue Norther Stakes over a mile at Santa Anita at the end of December for her next race.”
