Close second for Santin in G1 Hollywood Derby

Racenews

Santin produced a huge performance on his first Stakes appearance as he closed strongly to go down by a neck in the G1 Hollywood Derby at Del Mar, USA, on Saturday, 27 November.

The homebred Distorted Humor colt only made his debut for Brendan Walsh at the end of September and was stepping up to nine furlongs following two wins over a mile at Indiana Grand and Keeneland.

Drawn widest of all, Santin broke smartly under Umberto Rispoli and edged across to settle in mid-division on the outside of the field as Beyond Brilliant led the 14 runners.

Santin moved up a couple of places down the back and unleashed a powerful turn of foot in the straight, bearing down on Beyond Brilliant all the way to the line.
