City Plan tackles FrontRunner Stakes

Racenews

Two-year-old colt City Plan steps up markedly in class for the G1 FrontRunner Stakes over an extended mile on dirt at Santa Anita, USA, on Saturday, September 30.

The son of Street Sense rallied strongly for a head success in a mile maiden at another Californian track, Los Alamitos, on September 6, after finishing sixth over six furlongs on debut at Del Mar on August 21.

City Plan, ridden for the first time by Drayden Van Dyke and drawn five, faces eight other juveniles including Bolt D’Oro and Zatter, the first two home in the G1 Del Mar Futurity.

Eoin Harty commented: “City Plan is taking a big step up in class, but he has won his maiden and deserves a shot at a stakes race.

“He doesn’t have any limitations in terms of distance – he is a big, leggy colt with plenty of muscle – and has a very good pedigree.

“We are taking a chance in a G1 race, but City Plan will be a nice horse in time.”
