Chantilly G3 test for Kitesurf & Glittering Jewel

Racenews

Progressive three-year-old fillies Kitesurf and Glittering Jewel step up to G3 level in the Prix de Royaumont (14.20hrs local time) over a mile and a half at Chantilly, France, on Sunday, June 4.

Kitesurf (Andre Fabre/Mickael Barzalona) stayed on to take second, two lengths behind Musawaah, at the same course in the Listed Prix de la Seine over a furlong shorter on May 7.

The Dubawi filly had previously made two appearances at Compiegne, including when gaining a smooth victory in a 12-furlong maiden in April.

Glittering Jewel (Charlie Appleby/William Buick), a daughter of Bernardini, has made two appearances in maidens, taking fourth over a mile at Newmarket in April and coming home a clear second in a 10-furlong contest at Ascot on May 12.

A field of nine for the Prix de Royaumont also features Prix de la Seine scorer Musawaah and Listed runner-up Layali.

Lisa-Jane Graffard of Godolphin said: “Kitesurf has a bit to find if she is to reverse the form with Musawaah but she comes into this race in good form and is an improving filly.

“She is going the right way, gets this trip well and should hopefully make the frame.”

Charlie Appleby commented: “Glittering Jewel improved nicely from her first to second run and ran into a decent filly at Ascot, who has gone on to win a Listed race.

“I am looking forward to seeing her step up in trip and feel that she should be very competitive.”
