Challenge Stakes third for D’bai

Racenews

D’bai ran another good race at G2 level when coming home third in the seven-furlong Godolphin Stud And Stable Staff Awards Challenge Stakes on day one of Newmarket’s Dubai Future Champions Festival on Friday, 12 October.

The Charlie Appleby-trained four-year-old son of Dubawi, runner-up over the same distance in the G2 Park Stakes on 15 September, raced keenly initially as seventh of the eight runners for William Buick on the outside.

D’bai started to make headway passing the three-furlong pole to go fourth and kept on to try and challenge inside the final furlong. He could not get to grips with the winner Limato and was beaten two and a quarter lengths. Limato’s time came to 1m 24.87s on good to firm ground.

Charlie Appleby commented: “It was another consistent run from D’bai, although he is a horse who doesn’t like to see too much daylight and is better suited to racing around a bend.

“We will take him back out to Dubai now and look at running him in the G2 Al Fahidi Fort (7f, January 24).”
