Belardo finished with a flourish to take third in the G2 Dubai Challenge Stakes at Newmarket, UK, on Friday, October 9.

The three-year-old colt, trained by Roger Varian and ridden by William Buick, was slowly into stride and raced in last of the 10 runners for much of the seven-furlong contest.

He started to take closer order with two furlongs left and ran on well inside the final furlong to snatch third near the line, going down by three-quarters of a length to Cable Bay, who won in 1m 24.45s on ground described as good to soft, good in places.

Roger Varian said: "It was a better run from Belardo, so we are very pleased but a bit frustrated not to win. We will see how he is after the race and what else there is for him but he ran well enough today to possibly run again."
