Avilius third in Prix Guillaume d’Ornano

Racenews

Avilius stayed on to finish a clear third in the G2 Prix Guillaume d’Ornano over a mile and a quarter at Deauville, France, on Tuesday, August 15.

The three-year-old colt, trained by Andre Fabre and ridden by Mickael Barzalona, raced in third of the eight runners early on before being relegated to fourth after the first quarter-mile.

He moved up to regain third with a furlong and a half to race and galloped out well to go down by four and three-quarter lengths to Eminent, who made all to win in 2m 2.26s on good ground.

Lisa-Jane Graffard of Godolphin commented: “We are absolutely delighted with Avilius, who has run a cracking race in a strong G2 contest. He is a horse who is progressing all of the time and deserves plenty of credit.

“It looks like Avilius will be suited by a step up in trip and possibly some cut in the ground, so hopefully there is a nice race for him over a mile and a half in the autumn.”
