Asinara Solid In G3 Placing

Lightly-raced filly Asinara confirmed her early promise and provided a glimpse of a brighter future with a solid placing in the G3 Arrowfield Classic at Kembla Grange, Australia, on Friday March 11.

Lightly-raced filly Asinara confirmed her early promise and provided a glimpse of a brighter future with a solid placing in the G3 Arrowfield Classic at Kembla Grange, Australia, on Friday, March 11.

An impressive winner at her first two starts, Asinara (John O'Shea/James McDonald) was having only her fourth start and was opposed to a field of experienced and talented fillies.

The daughter of Teofilo also had to contend with the outside gate which left her rider James McDonald little option but to drop out and give a start to the entire field.

But Asinara powered home over the final 200m to finish a length-and-a-half from the winner Single Gaze.

"The wide gate made a big difference and I'm not sure she was entirely at home on a track that was getting softer throughout the day," said assistant trainer Darren Beadman.

Asinara holds and entry for the G1 ATC Oaks and G1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes later in the Autumn, but no firm plans are yet in place.

"We'll give her time to get over this and see where we go after that," Beadman said.

Godolphin's VRC Oaks placegetter from last Spring, Ambience, finished fifth at her second run this time in and will also be considered for better races during the Autumn.
