Antoinette proves The Very One at Gulfstream Park

Racenews

Antoinette made an impressive return to action when making most of the running in the G3 The Very One Stakes over nine and a half furlongs on turf at Gulfstream Park, USA, on Saturday, 27 February.

The Hard Spun filly, who placed at G1 level on both dirt and turf during a highly productive 2020 for Bill Mott, broke smartly and raced in second for the first quarter-mile before being sent on into a length and a half advantage by Jose Ortiz.

Antoinette kicked for home turning in and rallied strongly in the straight, finding plenty in front to come home two and a quarter lengths clear of Belle Laura.

Godolphin USA President Jimmy Bell said: “There was obviously no rust on Antoinette today and she was very fresh. The way the race unfolded meant she was able to get to the lead and control it, before making a very swift pick-up for home.

“Jose Ortiz said that he had plenty of filly when he turned her loose down the lane and she responded. Bill Mott had her in great shape and she produced a very mature performance.”
