Ancient Wisdom back to form with G3 Gordon Richards Stakes second

Ancient Wisdom put a lacklustre seasonal return behind him with a rallying second to Al Aasy in the G3 Gordon Richards Stakes at Sandown Park, UK, on Friday, 25 April.
The Dubawi colt, a G1 winner at two, looked set for a bright campaign after ending his three-year-old season with a third in the G1 Grosser Preis von Bayern, but failed to beat a rival on his return to action at Newbury earlier this month.
Smartly into his stride, Ancient Wisdom was sent to the front of the seven runners by William Buick and established an early half-length advantage over Arabian Crown as the Charlie Appleby-trained duo dictated.
Ancient Wisdom found plenty as Arabian Crown attempted to close passing the two-furlong pole and rallied when See The Fire launched a sustained challenge entering the final furlong.
Al Aasy swooped by Ancient Wisdom and See The Fire over half a furlong out before going clear, with the Godolphin runner again responding gamely to reduce the winner’s advantage to half a length at the line.
