Alpine Trail reaches new peak with Newmarket Listed success

Alpine Trail stretched his unbeaten record to three as he comfortably made all in the Listed Newmarket Stakes at Newmarket, UK, on Friday, 2 May.
Stepping up in class following decisive wins at Wolverhampton and Yarmouth, the Charlie Appleby-trained Dubawi colt broke alertly and established an early length lead over Ernst Blofeld.
Nebras emerged as the main danger towards the far rail over a furlong out, although Alpine Trail found plenty after being galvanised by William Buick to cross the line three lengths in front.
Charlie Appleby said: “Alpine Trail has done nothing but please us. He was unraced at two as he is a big frame of a horse, so we gave him plenty of time. He is difficult to get a handle on at home as he’s a hard horse to get past on the gallops, and he showed that attitude again today.
“I would say that we might look at the Lingfield Derby Trial for him next. He still needs to take a big step forward to be considered a Derby horse, but you would imagine that stepping up to a mile and a half will see further improvement.”
