Al Shindagha Sprint second for Comicas

Racenews

Comicas ran on well to snatch second in the G3 Al Shindagha Sprint over six furlongs on dirt at Meydan, UAE, on Thursday, 8 February.

The Charlie Appleby-trained five-year-old, carrying a 2lb penalty following his course and distance success in the G3 Dubawi Stakes on 18 January, broke well but was then pushed along by William Buick and dropped back to race towards the rear of the seven-strong field.

Comicas still had the majority of the field in front of him turning for home on the inner, but started to make good headway after entering the straight and took fourth.

He then went third and ran on to collar Reynaldothewizard for second by a head on the line, going down by four lengths to My Catch, who made all to win in 1m 12.50s.

Charlie Appleby explained: “Comicas has run another solid race. He hit the line strongly again and I am pleased with the performance, especially under a penalty.

“In an ideal world, he needs to be drawn towards the outside because he is not the quickest from the gate and tends to suffer from the kickback on the inside.

“We will see how he comes out of this race, but there is no reason why we shouldn’t have a look at the Mahab Al Shimaal (G3, 6f) on Super Saturday (10 March) and then the Dubai Golden Shaheen (G1, 6f) on Dubai World Cup Night (31 March).”
