Ago Bay out to light up Fairy Stakes

Racenews

Three-year-old filly Ago Bay (Tomohito Ozeki/Hiroshi Kitamura) makes her Pattern race debut in the G3 Fairy Stakes over a mile at Nakayama, Japan, on Saturday, 12 January.

The daughter of Heart’s Cry has run twice, both over seven furlongs, and followed up her neck victory on debut at Tokyo in November with a staying-on second in a Chukyo allowance race on 9 December.

Ago Bay breaks from stall two in a field of 16, with last time out winners Figlia Pura, F T Iris and Aqua Mirabilis among the opposition.

Harry Sweeney, President of Godolphin in Japan, commented: “Although Ago Bay is a petite filly, she is full of heart and deserves her first chance in a Group race.

“This will be a true test and, if Ago Bay is good enough to win or place second, she will be aimed at the G1 Oka Sho (Japanese 1,000 Guineas) at Hanshin in April.”
