Passion For Gold retired from racing at the end of the 2011 campaign having won three of his seven starts, including an impressive six-length victory in Group 1 company in France in 2009; had run out a wide margin winner of a Thirsk maiden over 1m on his debut in August 2009 and was far from disgraced when faced with a stiff test against St Nicholas Abbey in the Group 2 Beresford Stakes on his next start; his most impressive display came when tackling testing conditions in the Group 1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud in the autumn, the 260,000gns purchase easily beating a strong field which included Aidan O'Brien's Mikhail Glinka and subsequent Premio Roma winner Zazou; had 18 months off through injury and was not the same horse in 2011, but did manage a final hurrah when winning the Listed Tapster Stakes (1m4f) at Goodwood in May at the expense of the 114-rated Jet Away
