Mutafaweq developed into a high-class 3yo for Saeed bin Suroor, landing the Group 2 King Edward VII Stakes at the Royal meeting before winning the 1999 Group 1 St Leger, beating Oaks heroine Ramruma by a comfortable 2l; that was his final start of the season but he continued as good as ever in 2000, finishing third behind the brilliant Montjeu in the Tattersalls Gold Cup; did not have to wait too long before his next success as he landed the Group 1 Deutschland Preis at Dusseldorf in July; then contested the Grade 1 Canadian International Stakes where his great desire and class shone through, with a hard fought victory by the smallest margin; continued to perform at the highest level as a 5yo when making all to beat Wellbeing in the Coronation Cup at Epsom, his fourth Grade/Group 1 victory; retired to stud in 2001
