Retired from racing in 1995 unbeaten in four races; won the Listed Washington Singer Stakes at Newbury as a 2yo for the late Alex Scott in August 1994 but it was his achievements at three that really set him apart; won the Group 1 Epsom Derby on his seasonal reappearance, a very rare feat, and held his form throughout the remainder of the year, joining the elite when defeating older horses in the Group 1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot in July and then signing off with an emotional success in the Group 1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp in the autumn; seemed to handle most ground. Passed away on 7th July 2014.
