Cutlass Bay had some excellent form in France for Andre Fabre; a victory in the Group 2 Prix Greffulhe at Saint-Cloud, beating subsequent Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe third Cavalryman in the process, gave early warning of his talents and he returned from 11 months off the track when defying a penalty in the Group 2 Prix d'Harcourt at Longchamp over 1m2f; a well backed favourite for the Group 1 Prix Ganay on his next start, he showed a tremendous turn of foot to wear down the enterprisingly ridden Shalanaya and stretch his unbeaten run to five; he joined Saeed bin Suroor soon after and was sent to Ireland for a crack at the Tattersalls Gold Cup; however, he appeared ill at ease on the quickest ground he'd encountered and could finish only fifth of six behind Fame And Glory; that race appeared to leave its mark and he was a long way below his best on his final three starts
