Frost Point scores career best with G3 Doubledogdare Stakes success

Frost Point unleashed a storming stretch run to gain the biggest win of her career in the G3 Doubledogdare Stakes at Keeneland, USA, on Friday, 21 April.

The Frosted mare, who was stepping back up to Graded company for Bill Mott on the back of two impressive Aqueduct victories over the winter, was shuffled back to a clear last of the six runners after meeting early traffic.

Having moved up a place leaving the back, Frost Point stayed on to go fourth at the top of the straight, some six lengths behind the leading duo of Hidden Connection and Green Up.

Flavien Prat switched Frost Point out soon after and the Godolphin five-year-old went through the gears inside the final furlong, collaring Interstatedaydream before quickening past the front two in the closing strides for a cosy three-quarter length verdict.

Bill Mott said: “Frost Point was a little worn out last spring and we sent her to the farm – Johnny Burke at Godolphin gave her time and got her ready to go. We sent her back to New York early and got her going again.

“Over the summer, she put on weight and started looking better. She has come back very well and is three-for-three now. It was a very good race today and I thought that she beat a real solid field.

“She won over a mile last time and a mile and sixteenth today. We have thought that she could get a mile and eighth in the past and, if she keeps running the way she is, this type of race will be good for her.”

Flavien Prat added: “Frost Point jumped well but I got squeezed a little bit, so I backed up and was a little further back than I could have been. She was travelling well all the way round and it felt like she was going to make a good move round the turn. As soon as I tipped her out, she really extended herself and kicked on well.”
