Final Song runner-up in G1 Al Quoz Sprint

Final Song continued her excellent record over six furlongs at Meydan, UAE, this season when flying home to take second in the G1 Al Quoz Sprint on Dubai World Cup Night, Saturday, 27 March.

In a messy race, the 13 runners split into two groups as Man Of Promise (Richard Mullen) and Royal Crusade (Mickael Barzalona) tracked Equilateral in a group of four down the stands’ side.

Final Song (Christophe Soumillon) and Space Blues (William Buick), who both settled in mid-division, tacked across to the centre of the course after the first quarter-mile with the majority of those who initially raced down the far rail. Man Of Promise moved up to dispute the running a furlong out, with Royal Crusade also challenging for the lead entering the final half-furlong.

Both horses could not go on with Extravagant Kid in the closing stages but Final Song launched a strong late challenge, getting to within half a length of the winner at the line.

It was a third consecutive impressive effort over the six furlong turf course at Meydan for the Saeed bin Suroor-trained filly, who had finished second in the Listed Dubai Sprint before winning the G3 Nad Al Sheba Turf Sprint on Super Saturday.

Saeed bin Suroor said: “Final Song ran a big race. She moved to the middle but finished her race really good and managed to come second.

“Six furlongs is her trip and we are going to keep her at this distance now. We will take her back to Newmarket and find a nice race for her in Europe."

Christophe Soumillon said: “Final Song ran really well. Unfortunately, we were on the wrong side. I think if we had drawn on the outside she would probably win but it was a good run from her."
