Marois third for Line Of Duty

Racenews

Line Of Duty finished third in the G1 Prix Jacques le Marois at Deauville, France, on Sunday, 11 August.

The three-year-old colt, trained by Charlie Appleby and partnered by James Doyle, was settled in fourth place in the early stages of the mile contest. He was asked to quicken entering the last quarter mile and kept on steadily as he approached the final furlong.

Inside the last furlong, Line Of Duty made good progress and almost got up to take second on the line, as Romanised scored by a length and a quarter from Shaman with a further nose back to Line Of Duty in third. The winning time was 1m 35.16s on ground described as good to soft.

Charlie Appleby said: “I was delighted with Line Of Duty today and we are back on track with him.

“Prior to today he had showed very good form over a mile, most notably when winning the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf. Today was his first start back at a mile this year and he has put up another solid performance.

“We will look at keeping at around a mile for the moment. More importantly, some cut in the ground will hopefully see a bit more improvement from him.”
