G1 star Hauraki to miss Spring

Mike Hedge

Godolphin’s G1 Epsom Handicap winner Hauraki will be rested during the coming Australian Spring with a view to returning for an Autumn campaign in 2018.

One of the most consistent and courageous members of the Australian team, Hauraki had been placed five times at G1 level before his Epsom breakthrough.

“Hauraki has been an outstanding performer for Team Godolphin over a number of seasons,” said trainer James Cummings.

“We’ve elected to give him a break for the remainder of the season in the hope of maximising his chances of returning to his best form in the Autumn.

“He’s enjoying a break with other members of the team at Godolphin’s Kelvinside Stud at Scone.”

“There’s nothing that we expect will hold him up in the longer term and we very much look forward to his return to training later in the year.”

Hauraki was joined by Hartnell, Astern, Impending, It’s Somewhat and Polarisation as G1 winners for Godolphin in Australia in the 2016-17 season.
