Words Of Truth proves much the best in Listed Scurry Stakes

Words Of Truth enjoyed a perfect start to his European season with a decisive victory in the Listed Scurry Stakes at Sandown Park, UK, on Saturday, 13 June.

Shouldered with a 5lb penalty for his win in September’s G2 Mill Reef Stakes, the Charlie Appleby-trained sprinter was smartly into his stride for Oisin Murphy and soon stalked the leading duo of Lady Youmzain and Argentine Tango. 

Words Of Truth quickened to take up the running from Lady Youmzain inside the final half-furlong, despite jumping a path across the track, before kicking clear for a length verdict in the five-furlong sprint. 

Charlie Appleby said: “It was a pleasing performance from Words Of Truth, who would probably appreciate a bit of ease in the ground. Today’s race was the plan, so we will see how he comes out of it before deciding where to go next.” 

Oisin Murphy added: “Words Of Truth is already a G2 winner, so this was a drop in grade, and you would hope that he has a higher grade of race within his grasp again. He’s a beautiful horse with lots of quality.”
