Space Blues and D’bai dominate G3 Prix de la Porte Maillot

Racenews

Space Blues continued his excellent record in France with a comfortable victory over D’bai in the seven-furlong G3 Prix de la Porte Maillot at Longchamp on Thursday, 25 June.

The Dubawi colt, who placed at G1 level in both the Prix Jean Prat and Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville in 2019, was soon settled in a clear third of the eight runners by Mickael Barzalona.

Space Blues was switched out with two furlongs left and stayed on strongly to take up the running entering the final furlong before readily asserting to score by a length and a quarter.

D’bai raced in mid-field and briefly pressed for the lead with just over a furlong to race. The son of Dubawi galloped out well under Christophe Soumillon to take second and provide Charlie Appleby with a 1-2 in the race.

Charlie Appleby said: “Space Blues was stepping back up to Group company following a nice Listed win at Haydock Park and produced a very nice performance. Seven furlongs is an ideal distance for him and the plan now is to hopefully head to Goodwood for the G2 Lennox Stakes at the end of July.

“D’bai ran another solid race and could also run in the Lennox Stakes.”
