Racenews

Fine Needle was the impressive winner of the six-furlong G2 Centaur Stakes at Hanshin, Japan, for the second year running on Sunday, 9 September.

The five-year-old Admire Moon horse, trained by Yoshitada Takahashi and partnered by Yuga Kawada, was held up in mid-division of the 15-strong field.

He started to improve a furlong and half out and came with a strong run on the outside to lead with almost half a furlong to go.

Fine Needle, giving weight all round, went away to triumph by a length and a half from Love Kampf on ground described as yielding in 1m 8.80s.

Harry Sweeney, President of Godolphin in Japan, said: “Fine Needle won really well today.

“The trainer has been very happy with the horse and now Fine Needle will target the G1 Sprinters Stakes at Nakayama (6f, 30 September)".

Fine Needle is already a G1 winner, having won Takamatsunomiya Kinen at Chukyo in March.
