Mysterious Night runner-up in G3 Ras Al Khor
Mysterious Night put up another spirited effort at Meydan as he chased home Elnajmm in the seven-furlong G3 Ras Al Khor on Friday, 6 March.
The Charlie Appleby-trained six-year-old, who was seeking a fourth win over the course and distance, broke well and tacked over to settle in sixth on the outside of the 14-runner field.
Dubai Treasure was also quickly into her stride and soon tracked the pace-setting Audience, with the front two opening up daylight over the field courtesy of some rapid mid-race fractions.
Having taken up the running two furlongs from home, Dubai Treasure was reeled in by the chasing pack entering the final furlong as Elnajmm, Mysterious Night and Chicago Critic laid down their challenges.
Mysterious Night took second half a furlong out but was unable to get on terms with Elnajmm, who quickened away to score by two and a half lengths.
Charlie Appleby said: “Mysterious Night has run another solid race. The miles might just be catching up with him now, so that will probably be his last run. We wish him a happy retirement.”
