Maycocks Bay third in G2 Connaught Cup

Maycocks Bay was collared inside the final furlong as he attempted to make all in the G2 Connaught Cup at Woodbine, Canada, on Sunday, 19 July.

The Michael Stidham-trained five-year-old had dominated throughout when taking the G2 Eclipse Stakes at the same course in late May, and Sofia Vives again sent the son of Speightstown on from the gates.

Having established a four-length lead down the back, Maycocks Bay still had two lengths in hand over his seven rivals at the top of the straight as G T Five Hundred and Piper’s Factor started to close on the Godolphin runner.

G T Five Hundred wrestled the lead approaching the final half-furlong, with Irish Aces finishing strongly to take second soon after. Maycocks Bay could find no more in the closing strides, going down by just over two lengths in total.
