Loxley is Leger bound: Doyle booked as Godolphin double-handed

Loxley is set to join stablemate Old Persian as Godolphin launch a powerful assault on the final Classic of the British season, the G1 St Leger, at Doncaster on Saturday.

The New Approach colt, who comes to Town Moor off the back of two promising wins at Deauville, also had an entry in Sunday’s G2 Prix Niel at Longchamp.

From Keeneland sales in Kentucky, trainer Charlie Appleby reported: “We have decided to run two in the  Leger — Old Persian will be ridden by William Buick, while James Doyle will be on Loxley.”

Old Persian has reportedly done well since his fighting victory in the G2 Great Voltigeur at York, as too has Loxley, who landed the G2 Grand Prix de Deauville on his most recent outing.
