Hassaleh doubles up at Deauville in G3 Darley Prix de Lieurey

Progressive filly Hassaleh claimed back-to-back wins at Deauville, France, as she stormed from last to first in the G3 Darley Prix de Lieurey on Saturday, 15 August. 

The Night Of Thunder homebred had raced prominently when scoring by four lengths in last month’s Listed Darley Prix Amandine but found herself at the rear of the 12 runners this time. 

Christophe Lemaire raced away from the inside rail throughout and produced Hassaleh widest of all in the straight, with the Charlie Appleby-trained three-year-old quickening powerfully into the lead approaching the final furlong. 

Esna attempted to close but Hassaleh had plenty in hand and crossed the line a length in front, while Fortuna Diamond picked up more G3 Black Type as she finished a neck further back in third. 

Charlie Appleby said: “It was a very pleasing performance from Hassaleh, who did it the hard way today and still won comfortably. Christophe said afterwards that she could step forward again and we will have to think about some better races for her, possibly in the United States.”
