Golden Sunshine closes well for second in G3 Bewitch Stakes
Golden Sunshine picked up some useful G3 Black Type and opened up options in staying races as she finished strongly to take second in the Bewitch Stakes at Keeneland, USA, on Friday, 24 April.
Stepping up to a mile and a half for the first time, the Eoin Harty-trained four-year-old was given a patient ride by Jaime Torres, who anchored the daughter of Medaglia d’Oro in a clear last of the eight runners for much of the race.
Golden Sunshine took closer order behind a wall of horses at the top of the straight and stayed on after being switched out soon after, hitting the line well to get to within a length and a quarter of Speed Shopper.
Jaime Torres said: “I had a clean break. Everybody kind of went in front of me. I just stayed calm behind, tried to save some horse for the end. This is the longest race Golden Sunshine has done. I thought I had a lot of horse and that the race was going to be for me. The filly who won is a very nice filly. It was a good, grand effort for her.”
