G3 second for Ceratonia

Racenews

Ceratonia finished second in the G3 Prix d’Aumale over a mile at Longchamp, France, on Sunday, 9 September.

The two-year-old filly, a half-sister to Wild Illusion, was slightly slow into stride before being pushed along by William Buick to go prominent.

Ceratonia led after a furlong and was kicked for home turning into the straight, but did not go clear.

She was headed at the furlong-marker and kept on well to be beaten three quarters of a length by Rocques whose time came to 1m 40.51s on ground described as good.

Alex Merriam, an assistant to trainer Charlie Appleby, commented: “We were very pleased with Ceratonia today.

“She has performed nicely and you have to remember it was only her second outing.

“We will see how she comes out of the race before deciding what to do next.”

Ceratonia won on her first start by half a length in a seven-furlong contest at Ascot on 27 July.
