Divine Spirit runner-up in G3 Prix d’Arenberg

Racenews

Divine Spirit quickened well in the closing stages to come home a clear second in the G3 Prix d’Arenberg over five furlongs at Chantilly, France, on Saturday, 31 August.

The two-year-old Kingman filly, trained by Charlie Appleby, was covered in second last of the eight runners by Mickael Barzalona and still had most of the field in front of her approaching the furlong-pole.

She ran on strongly towards the centre of the course to take second inside the final half-furlong, going down by three-quarters of a length to Al Raya, who scored in 58.47s on good ground. Flaming Princess finished third, a further length and a quarter in arrears.

Charlie Appleby said: “Divine Spirit finished her race off well and I am pleased that she has placed in a Group race, which is always important for a filly.

“She is doing everything the right way round in her races now and a step back up in distance might suit her.”
