Casapueblo renaissance continues in Listed Prix Jacques Laffitte

Casapueblo maintained an unbeaten start to 2026 and picked up his biggest victory to date as he comfortably took the Listed Prix Jacques Laffitte at Longchamp, France, on Sunday, 12 April.

The Andre Fabre-trained five-year-old had registered a first victory since his juvenile campaign when scoring on the all-weather at Chantilly in March, although he had posted several strong efforts at Group and Listed level in the interim. 

Settled in fourth of the seven runners, Casapueblo made good headway to take up the running a furlong and a half out and responded well for Alexis Pouchin to see off Matauri Bay by three-quarters of a length. 

Louise Benard of Godolphin said: “Casapueblo had a good comeback race at Chantilly and had placed six times at Group and Listed level before today. It’s very good that he has finally got his Black Type victory as he deserved it and he did it well. 

“He has an entry in the G3 Prix d'Hedouville back here next month, which could be an option. That race is over further, but I think today’s trip [1,850m] was probably the minimum for him. We will stay between Listed and G2 company as we know he is competitive at those levels.”
