Beiwacht back with a bang with dominant Memsie Stakes success

Beiwacht made a sensational start to his four-year-old campaign with a commanding all-the-way victory in the G1 Memsie Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday. 

Winner of the Golden Rose at two and All Aged Stakes at three, the Bivouac entire recorded a third top-level win over his favoured seven-furlong distance when readily scoring by three lengths over decorated veteran Mr Brightside. 

Beiwacht was kicking off his season after an elevated temperature forced him to miss the G1 Winx Stakes earlier in the month. He could travel internationally later in the season in search of more targets over his optimum trip, particularly around a bend. 

Custom was also on the scoresheet on the same Caulfield card as the Street Boss filly posted a length-and-three-quarter verdict over Photograph in the G3 Courtza Stakes over six furlongs. The consistent four-year-old was registering a first Pattern-race victory and may line up over the same course and distance in next month’s G1 Manikato Stakes. 

A good weekend for Godolphin two-year-olds included a pair of homebred winners at Chukyo on Saturday. Maurice filly Bhinchari rallied well to take a newcomers’ race, while Kizuna colt Mannat finished strongly to score on his second appearance. 

New Purpose made an impressive introduction in the United States on Sunday as she scored by nearly four lengths at Kentucky Downs, with fellow juveniles Al Wathba and Victory Gold also registering wins in the UK during the week.
