Act Of Kindness acquired some useful G3 Black Type with a promising third on her three-year-old return in the Nell Gwyn Stakes at Newmarket, UK, on Wednesday, 15 April.

A maiden winner over the course and distance in October, the Charlie Appleby-trained filly disputed fifth of the 12 runners early on before being taken slightly further back by William Buick after the first three furlongs.

Act Of Kindness quickened to briefly press the leaders entering the final furlong before Azleet and America Queen went clear to fight out the finish. The Godolphin runner stuck to her task, seeing off Inis Mor for third to go down by a length and three-quarters in total.

Charlie Appleby said: “Act Of Kindness spent the first couple of months of the winter on the treadmill, as she is a quirky filly and we wanted to keep things simple for her. However, the moment we took her off that, she has been as good as gold.

“Timewise, we were short getting here, although she has turned herself inside out over the last couple of weeks. Based on her recent pieces of work, we felt she would run a race while knowing that she was not fully tuned up.

“There are positives to take from the performance. Will was happy with the way she travelled and said she showed a great attitude, plus she should appreciate stepping up to a mile. She is not in the Guineas and, if we look after her, I think she will be a nice Stakes filly further down the line.”
