Located on Bowman Mill Road, near Lexington’s Bluegrass Field airport, John A. Bell and his wife Jessica founded the farm in 1954 as a thoroughbred nursery, which the family operated for nearly 50 years.

Sheikh Mohammed purchased Jonabell from the Bells in 2001, and in 2005 the stallion operations at Gainsborough Farm and Jonabell Farm were consolidated to this location.

Jonabell has produced more than 200 Stakes winners and 14 Champions, including leading sire Damascus and the Bells' homebred Breeders’ Cup winner Epitome.

Today, Jonabell is home to many of North America’s top stallions, including leading sire Medaglia d’Oro, Eclipse Champion Bernardini, multiple G1 winner Frosted, and Kentucky Derby winners Street Sense, Animal Kingdom, and Nyquist

Mares currently in residence include Eclipse Champion Questing, Breeders' Cup Distaff winner Round Pond, and G1 winners Dubai Escapade, Octave, Panty Raid, Dickinson, Balletto, and Cocoa Beach.
