Music Note gave Godolphin a second success at the highest level this year when winning the 52nd running of the Mother Goose Stakes convincingly at Belmont Park on Saturday, June 28.
The three-year-old filly made it three wins from four starts in the Grade One over nine furlongs on dirt when successful by three and a half lengths.
Music Note stumbled at the start but Javier Castellano soon had the Godolphin runner back on an even keel.
She raced as a close third with Never Retreat setting the pace and went second turning for home before leading coming into the straight.
Running on strongly, she managed a decisive advantage at the line over Kentucky Oaks winner Proud Spell who was subsequently demoted to third for causing interference.
Saeed bin Suroor, the Godolphin trainer, said: "We fully expected that she would run a big race, but we knew it would be tough with the Kentucky Oaks winner, Proud Spell, in the field.
"I told Javier Castellano, just keep her close. She's got a good turn of foot.
"I am happy to see the filly win a Grade One. Javier Castellano gave her a good ride and she was impressive.
"She has kept improving - this was a big step-up from her last race - and she was very professional."
It was a particularly good performance as Music Note lost her right hind shoe during the race which she won in a time of 1m 49.75s.
The winning jockey commented: "I saw Proud Spell was in trouble in the race. When I pushed the button, Music Note took off. I didn't want to wait for anybody.
"I had a beautiful trip, even though she stumbled at the start.. I don't think she will have a problem going farther."
The next target could be the Alabama Stake at Saratoga on August 16 or the Coaching Club American Oaks back at Belmont on July 19, both run over 10 furlongs.
A decision will be made when it is seen how Music Note comes out of the the Mother Goose Stakes.
