Godolphin Racing has won an Eclipse Award for Champion Owner at the 39th annual Eclipse Awards ceremony held on Monday evening, January 18, 2010 at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, USA.
This is the first time that Godolphin has won this award for top North American owner.
Godolphin enjoyed a terrific time in America in 2009 securing nine Grade One victories. A particularly strong contingent of fillies included Flashing, who posted Grade One wins in the Test Stakes at Saratoga in August and the Gazelle Stakes at Aqueduct in November. Music Note also recorded a pair of victories at the highest level, powering to comfortable successes in both the Ballerina Stakes at Saratoga in August and the Beldame Stakes at Belmont Park in October, while Seventh Street gamely triumphed in the Grade One Go For Wand Handicap at Saratoga at the start of August.
A fruitful Saratoga meeting also saw Pyro take the Grade One Forego Stakes, while Gayego stormed to an easy success in the six-furlong Grade One Ancient Title Stakes on Pro-Ride at Santa Anita in October. Later in the month, Vineyard Haven produced a powerful late run to take the Grade One Frank J De Francis Memorial Dash Stakes at Laurel Park.
Godolphin celebrated a fourth Breeders' Cup success when Vale Of York scored in the Grade One Breeders' Cup Juvenile Stakes at Santa Anita in November.
The Godolphin trainer Saeed bin Suroor commented: "It is a brilliant result for everyone at Godolphin to win such a major award in the US.
"We enjoyed a very good 2009, with highlights including some excellent big-race victories at Saratoga and the success of Vale Of York at the Breeders' Cup.
"I am hopeful that our horses will continue to run so well this year."
Godolphin's Racing Manger, Simon Crisford said: 'It is a great honour for Godolphin to win the Eclipse Award.
"We had a fantastic year in the US and we were well represented in all the big races.
"It is a super result for the Godolphin team."
