LIFE’S A BREEZE FOR SIROCCO AT MEYDAN

Sirocco Breeze was the impressive winner of leg two of the Meydan Masters

Sirocco Breeze came with a storming run to take leg two of the Meydan Masters, the Meydan Museum Handicap, over seven furlongs on Tapeta on Friday, March 5.

After breaking smartly, the lightly-raced five-year-old son of Green Desert was immediately restrained at the rear of the field by Richard Hills.

Last turning for home, he was switched to the outside with three furlongs to race and began to make good headway entering the straight.

Sirocco Breeze quickened impressively with a furlong left and swooped to take the lead before being eased near the line to win much more easily than the two and a half length margin suggests. His time was 1m 22.95s.

The Godolphin trainer Saeed bin Suroor commented: "Sirocco Breeze is a class horse and won very well again."

Richard Hills added: "I spoke to Frankie (Dettori) beforehand and he said once Sirocco Breeze relaxes, he has a really good turn of foot.

"He beat me last time when I thought I had won the race (on Mutheeb) and he went by me very quickly so I was quite confident.

"He’s good enough to win some big races back home."

Godolphin’s other two runners in the 11-strong field, Marching and Desuetude, came home eighth and 10th respectively.

Marching was smartly into stride under Christophe Lemaire and was settled in fifth on the inside rail. The six-year-old was asked for his effort turning for home and stayed on approaching the final furlong.

Desuetude broke well and raced in mid-division on the outside before being held up in second last by Ryan Moore after a furlong. The five-year-old failed to make an impression in the straight.
