Allybar did not have much room when trying to mount a challenge in the final furlong of the Group Two Al Maktoum Challenge Round Three Sponsored by Derrinstown Stud, Intikhab, over 10 furlongs on Tapeta at Meydan on Thursday, March 4.
The four-year-old King’s Best colt, ridden by Ahmed Ajetbi, was slightly slow into stride and held up near the rear on the inside.
He stuck to the inner in the straight, moving up menacingly to try and get a clear run but there was little room and his momentum was checked.
Allybar kept on to go down by a neck, three quarters of a length and a short-head when following Red Desire, Gloria De Campeao and Mr Brock home in fourth.
Cavalryman, partnered by Frankie Dettori, was making his seasonal debut and trying Tapeta for the first time in a race.
He raced in seventh on the outside and was switched out wide to attack the leaders. The four-year-old Halling colt kept on without making an impression.
Saeed bin Suroor, the Godolphin trainer, declared: "Allybar was slightly unlucky but ran a good race, while Cavalryman needed the outing."
