Vineyard Haven and Pyro finished a close third and well-beaten fifth respectively in the Grade One Hill ‘N’ Dale Cigar Mile Handicap over a mile on dirt at Aqueduct, USA, on Saturday, November 28.
Vineyard Haven broke well for Alan Garcia and disputed the lead on the outside before taking a narrow lead three furlongs out.
He was challenged and headed with a furlong to go but rallied to go down by three quarters of a length and a head to the winner Kodiak Kowboy and second Bribon.
Pyro, the mount of Richard Migliore, raced in last, detached from the rest of the field.
He was ridden on the turn for home but could make no impression in the straight.
The Godolphin trainer Saeed bin Suroor said: “It was a disappointing result for us.
“Vineyard Haven is likely to stay in training, while we will consider Pyro’s future shortly.”
